Dear Ruth,
a cleanroom and full protection clothing would of course be better but we
also only got a laminar flow hood. I think this is absolutely essential if
you do manual cutting and digestions of gel separated proteins to get
Keratinlevels down. Otherwise you will likely get unreproducable
backgrounds because of dustparticels. In addition filtering of all the
solvents and portioning of the SDS sample buffer for one time use also
helps.
For the MS sample preps we just use are regular clean lab benches. Once the
digestion is finished contaminations with other proteins are no longer
