Hi everyone, I am setting up a new Proteomics lab here at UAB. we have been
running mini 2-D gels, with the short Amersham 7 cm IPG strips, and have
been getting decent resolution, but have noticed a couple of things that I
need help with:
1. the Pierce Gelcode stain gives us very nice staining for the most
part, but what is that annoying fuzzy area of staining at the bottom of
the basic region of the gel??? is that due to ampholytes, or what? A
salesman told me that, but if so, why doesn't it give uniform background
staining, since the ampholytes distribute along the length of the IEF strip?
2. I finally found a kit of pI markers in the Invitrogen catalog
(suggested by someone on this email group!! Thanks Bryan in Scotland); am
about to order it. Has anyone had experience with this kit? Does it
really resolve into 9 or so spots? is there a better kit out there?
