I want to introduce you all to Parabon Computation. Parabon is a
distributed computing company in Northern Virginia. The company has a
distributed computing platform over the Internet or can install the platform
within an Intranet. Parabon developed a software tool called Prospector
that is a framework for performing large scale genomic sequence comparisons
over hunders to thousands of CPU's. Prospector currently uses algorithmic
plug-ins like BLAST and Smith-Waterman to perform the comparisons. The
software divides the problem in an elegant manner that alleviates the need
to cache entire databases on each PC. This parallelization of the problem
provides increased speed and better management of compute resources. The
framework allows for comparisons of entire genomes against in each other in
a relatively short period of time requiring no additional hardware. Parabon
has performed extensive testing of the software internally and is now
looking for researchers interested in trying out the software.
