Hello All:
I have an opening in my lab for a Research Associate to do proteomics in
a basic research/drug discovery environment. My group is trying to
bridge the gap between DNA arrays and measurements at the protein level
e.g. detecting up or down-regulation of proteins predicted to be tumor
antigens by mRNA expression. Specific approaches include ICAT
labeling-MS/MS technology as well as more traditional gel-based
methods. Our next challenge is extending these methods from cell lines
to tissue samples, so I need someone with a good background in
biochemistry to work on up-front sample preparation such as
homogenization, subcellular fractionation, and protein chemical
manipulation, as well as other aspects such as mass spectrometry and
protein identification. This is a great opportunity for someone with
protein chemistry/biochem. experience to add mass spec. to his or her
repertoire while doing exciting collaborative research. The "official"
description follow. Anone interested can e-mail the human resources
contact or reach me directly (please don't send resumes as e-mail
attachments).

Description:
A Research Associate is needed to join an expanding proteomics effort
in Genentechís Protein Chemistry department. New experimental approaches
based on mass spectrometry are being explored to link gene expression
data to measurements at the protein level. The successful candidate
will apply diverse protein biochemical techniques to measure
quantitative protein expression profiles as they relate to disease
state, development stage, or drug treatment. Responsibilities will
include development of technologies and participation in collaborative
projects supporting drug discovery efforts throughout Research.
Requirements:
The position requires a BS/MS with 3+ years of experience in protein
chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline. Experience with protein
purification and characterization is essential. Skills should include
such techniques as tissue culture, subcellular fractionation,
immunoprecipitation, western blotting, affinity chromatography, HPLC,
isoelectric focusing, and SDS-PAGE. Experience with in situ digestion
and mass spectrometry of proteins or peptides is desirable.
