RE: Bioanalyzer

I saw demos recently and asked a few questions about robustness of
the assays, and the quality and consistency of consumables from lot-to-lot.
I was told they OEM the gels from a sole supplier right now, and the Agilent
rep didn't have info on the release or stability testing done to insure
product consistency. I also asked about any tests done to determine if the
impregnated dye binds equally to all proteins, and to protein degradant
products, if it is intended as a quantitative assay. Agilent rep also had
no info on that issue.

Could be challenging to validate this system if needed for routine
or stability testing, or to set specs for product performance with it as a
replacement for other analytical methods until some of these issues are
addressed. Might serve as another R&D tool at this point, although it
didn't seem quite versatile enough yet for the investment. Agilent did
indicate more applications being developed in future, though.

I would be interested in other development/QC opinions.
