Hi,
We've got a SpectraMax Gemini from Molecular Devices that we really love. We've
had it since they first came on the market a couple of years ago and it has been
utilized at least 1/week since we purchased it. Normally it is in operation 3-5
days/week. I'm not familiar with the other models, but the Gemini's flexibility,
being a scanning fluorometer rather than a filter-based unit, is wonderful.
We've been pleased with it's sensitivity, accuracy, and reproducibility. The
only drawback we've seen is that it can only operate at ambient temperature and
above. We use it mostly for enzyme assays and we could really use a cooling
feature (Mol. Devices recommended that we not run it in a chromatography frige).
In case anybody is interested in a microplate spectrophotometer, we've also got
a Molecular Devices SpectraMax Plus which we love as much as the Gemini. They've
both been largely problem free and they're simple enough for anybody to operate
with only a few minute self-guided tour. I probably sound like a commercial but
we rely heavily on instrumentation and these two items give us the most data for
the least amount of effort of anything we own.
Good luck with your purchase.
