Our understanding is that these arise from oxidation of the G dye due
to exposure to air. We "demonstrated" this nicely once by running a
plate of BigDye standards dissolved in formamide twice in a row. The
first run was fine, the second a few hours later showed G-blobs.
This was on a 3700 with BD V1, but I imagine the situation is similar
with V2 or V3 on a 377. It's my understanding that it's not the light
or the humidity (at least not directly), but oxygen in the air.
