I did not mean to imply anything at all about the talent available in
industry labs, or to denigrate the good work done by people like you and
Steve Carr and others. What I did mean is pretty much what you and others
have also said--sequencing true unknowns or near unknowns is damn
difficult and is the province of specialists that are willing to commit
lots of time and $$$$ to the process--you have more $$$, in general the
academic labs can spend more time with projects--either way the job gets
done. Send me some of your excess salary and I will fix my flooded
basement.
