Happy New Year!
Does anybody have suggestions for lowering the noise level in a lab with
mechanical (vacuum) pumps, water chillers, and air conditioners? Our
current mass spectrometry lab is very loud, and a new lab is being planned,
so "quick fixes" as well as "doing it right" ideas are needed.

Hi Martha,
One of our mass spec labs solved a lot of their problems by using acoustical
"Sonex" tiles from a company called Illbruck. Some were attached to walls and
others were attached to the cubicle type walls so that they could be moved.
They have several different types depending on your noise level problems. Most
likely they will refer you to a company that sells their product locally.
I have also used them at home for some noisy equipment and have found them to
work very well.

Hope this helps,
