Barbara,

The University of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center has been using the LV-40
for more than a year now without any major problems. Yield and purity has
always been very good and at least equivalent to the old 40 nm. Analysis
by polyacrylamide gel, CE, and use in Sequencing reactions has always been
excellent. We also have been using the LV-200 columns for more that half a
year with the same excellent results.

We have made more than 5000 oligos with the LV-40 columns with minimal
problems. One very rare problem that does show up is a failed coupling
when there is no excuse for it. However I could not tell you if this was
more common than the old 40nm, it is rare, probably 3 in the last 6 months
but I think it might be due to the 0.2 sec delivery time. If you are
hesitant to use the 0.2 sec delievery time change it to 0.3 or 0.4 and you
still get a benefit from using the LV-40s. I started out at a higher
delivery because of doubts and then worked my way down to the current 0.2.

If it hadn't been for the LV columns we probably would have been out of
business as they greatly reduced the cost and allowed us to substantially
reduce our prices and increase business off-setting the price reduction.

Acetonitrile is now our biggest expense. I am hesitant to use other
sources than Fisher. We tried some other sources in the past and got poor
results.

Good Luck,

Chris Scherrer
