Many Years ago Beckman made a 32P detector for the HPLC and as I
recall it had a configuration like wrapping the flow path around a geiger
tube. I could use it on normal bore columns and monitor the synthesis of
radiolabeled compounds but it was not anymore sensitive than just aiming a
geiger counter at the fractions. For any quantitative or sensitive work, I
switch off the coincidence counter on the liquid scintillation counter and
do Cherenkov counts of the fractions collected.
