Dear Mike Klein,

the pKa of the asparagine's side chain nitrogen (RCONH2 <---> RCONH(-))
is about 17 (relative to water). You may find a list of pKa of the most
common organic acids in "Advanced Organic Chemistry", Jerry March, 3rd
ed., John Wiley & Sons, pages 220-222. This type of side chains is
generally not considered in standard biology/biochemistry books due to
the low acidity of such functional groups.
