Pump seal back wash systems that take care of the LC buffer salt problem
are available for several pumps from the manufactures. For instance, the
back wash is standard on the BioCad series and can be purchased as an option
on the HP 1100.

We would like to set up an automated HPLC gel filtration system and need
advice on an HPLC pump and autoinjector that can operate continuously in
aqueous buffers that will always contain non-volatile buffers and salts
that will be in the range of 0.05 to 0.5 M. The flow rates are anticipated
to be in the range of 0.05 -1.0 ml/min, pressures up to 2500 psi and total
solvent volumes/run up to about 30-40 mls. A final requirement is the pump
needs to be as pulseless as possible to minimize interference with the
detectors that will be used. All/any advice on vendors/models (either
direct to me at kenneth.williams@yale.edu or via general posting) will be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help (again),
Ken Williams
