DNAseq: Mac confusion

Hi
I just received my new ABI 377 DNA sequencer today and was
surprised to see that it came with an Apple 4400 200 Mhz computer. This PC
has the 603e power PC chip and not the 604e. I thought that the sequencer
would require a 604e processor and that Apple 7300 powerPC's would be the
best choice. What are other core facilities using?
Can anyone let me know how much performance I'm losing by using
the 603e chip and what the difference is between 603e and 604e. I'd like
to have the fastest processor I can get and I don't mind buying a newer
and faster computer to do the data analysis. The difference in cost is
only about $1,000 (which is hardly anything compared to the cost of the
377).
