Protein Biochemist (Mass Spectrometry)
Location: Rockville, MD

Opportunity: LSB has an immediate opening for an individual capable of
initiating high throughput identification of gel-separated proteins via
mass spectrometry of enzyme digests. Instrumentation devoted to this
effort includes a new Voyager DE-STR MALDI mass spectrometer (+LC/MS in
the near future), and extensive in-house robotics technology. The
successful candidate will combine knowledge of MS, interest in proteins,
and technology development skills to advance the construction of a
variety of large proteomics databases.
Skills and Experience: Applicant must have at least 3 years' experience
in the application of mass spectrometry to the identification of
proteins separated by gel electrophoresis, preferably in a
high-throughput environment. Expertise with both MALDI and LC/MS mass
spectrometers, protein recovery, digestion and sample preparation, as
well as familiarity with protein identification software should be
demonstrated. Ability to systematize these processes in aid of
high-throughput identification of proteins is highly desirable.
The position requires excellent problem-solving abilities, the ability
to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to learn new
technologies quickly, and to work both independently and as a team
member.
Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will participate
in the creation of LSB's protein identification facility, identify
and/or develop necessary equipment and methodology as required, and be
responsible for identification by MS of a growing pipeline of isolated
proteins.
