We apply sample onto the IPG strips normally in 7M urea, so there is not too
much precipitation. Reducing the amount of sample and/or concentration helps
to avoid precipitation. The tradeoff is that you might not have enough protein
to do further analytical experiments. However, as always there are proteins
which do not behave very well on IPG (e.g. membrane proteins).

| I have a question about IPG,
|
| you mentioned
|
| "-The preparative method did not work on most of the proteins we were
| interested in. The proteins precipitated on the membranes thereby
| clogging their pores."
|
| Have you ever seen proteins precipitated in the Pharmacia analytical
| IPG system?
