We lost several valve blocks on our three 394's starting about one and a
half year ago. My people say that these blocks are really easy to change
and they were not bothered by instrument failure. The bad lot of valve
blocks appear to have run its course. We have had no problems for the last
six months with the machines running around the clock. Because we have
automated our QC of each oligo right after deprotection, in addition to
trityl monitoring, the valve block problem has not costed us more than 12
oligos each time. I can see that for those who QC at a later step or wait
for user feedback, frequent block failures can be embrassing.
