Check valves are a good idea. There are many valves on the market that
allow one direction for flow. This will protect all other valveblocks
since the vacuum system is daisy chained together. I also experimented
with putting pH paper in empty synthesis columns to indicate if any TCA was
present. These columns were fitted in line wtih the check valves in each
vacuum line. This would give you an early warning system for any potential
valve failures. The usual signs of more frequent vacuum recharges should
be monitored to give indications of valve failure. It has been many years
since I have worked for ABI-PE so I hope this will help.
