Soundproofing an MS room -Reply

We have a very similar problem with a triple quad that is stationed in
a 12x18 ft room. The major source of noise was from the two rough
pumps. We constructed a pump box from an old armoir that one of my
colleagues rescued from the curb on garbage day, lined the box with
sonex foam, and added vent holes and cooling fans to keep the pumps
from melting down. It works. If I were able to remodel the entire
room, I would add sonex panels to the walls and put in sound
absorbing ceiling tiles. All these materials (except the armoir) are
available from:

I have two mass spectrometers in a fairly small room behind closed
doors
and the noise is definitely above background level. Does anybody
know
where I can get sound absorbing material to put on the walls. It
seems
to me that recording studios have asponge-like foam material stuck to
the walls. There must be someplace I can get this or perhaps get some
sponges from the local Home-Depot and superglue them to the wall.

Any ideas ?
