Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (RPR) has 2 positions available in the Core
Biotechnologies Department. These positions are in the Protein
Biochemistry Group. The principal responsibility is the expression,
purification and characterization of recombinant proteins for high
throughput screening.
RPR is located in Collegeville, PA about 30 miles northwest of
Philadelphia.

Protein Biochemist Positions Available

Position #1
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Purification and Characterization of Recombinant Proteins:
- Produced in mammalian cells (CHO stable cell lines and Cos-7 cells
transient), insect cells (baculovirus), E. coli, yeast.
- soluble, insoluble, secreted, membrane associated, truncated, full
length, chimeras, tagged, etc.
- Inclusion bodies (refolding).
- SDS-PAGE, western blot, 2-D PAGE.
* Experience with:
- FPLC, HPLC, column chromatography.
* Interaction with scientists from the screening and therapeutic
programs.
REQUIREMENTS:
* B.S./M.S. in Biochemistry or related field with 2-3 years experience
in protein biochemistry.
* Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Position #2
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Expression, purification and characterization of recombinant
proteins.
- High level expression of recombinant proteins in mammalian cells
(CHO stable cell lines and Cos-7 cells transient), insect cells
(baculovirus), E. coli, yeast.
- Cell culture on a large scale (spinner flask, bioreactor, shake
flask fermentor).
* Protein Purification and Characterization:
- Recombinant and native proteins (soluble, insoluble, refolding,
membrane associated, truncated, full length, chimeras, tagged, etc.).
- SDS-PAGE, western blot, 2-D PAGE.
- Enzymatic assays (kinetic analysis, substrate specificity, etc.)
* Experience with FPLC, HPLC, column chromatography.
* Supervision of scientific staff toward accomplishment of the
section's objectives.
* Interaction with scientists from the screening and therapeutic
programs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Ph.D in Biochemistry or related field with 2-5 years industrial
experience.
* Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
