Dear Russell, Bet you dollars to doughnuts that those folk you are getting
your samples from aren't being as careful as you about gloves etc. Try
reading them the riot act. I have found nothing that works to clean the
PVDF really well---you can try wetting with methanol then washing 3x with
fresh (not out of the carboy) Milli-Q or HPLC grade water, but I don't
really know if that will help for keratin and collagen. It does help some
for glycine and serine. Tell your users not to scratch their heads while
they are peering at the blotts looking for their bands, and that after they
scratch themselves with their gloves on, the gloves have just as much junk
as their whatsits do.
How does the blank PVDF look?

Good luck. Education of our "users", collaborators or tormentors (whatever
you wish to call them, depending on the day) is one of out hardest jobs.

Weather Inconsequential: Apparently some snow headed our way. My tulips
are up about 4" but I can't see the buds yet, so I think they'll be fine.
