In 1993, the ABRF Survey Committee published the results of a 1992 survey
of Biotechnology Core Facilities (see K.M. Ivanetich et al, FASEB J
7:1109-1114 (1993).

The Survey Committee is currently conducting a follow-up survey on the
"Operations and Technical Capabilities" of the members of the ABRF.

At the San Diego ABRF meeting we had many members ask us when our survey
will be published. We are writing this to encourage you to participate in
this survey. The ABRF has
approximately 290 separate laboratories--and to date we have only received
data for the survey from about 65 labs. We will hold the survey open for
data submission until we receive 130 responses; in 1992 the ABRF had 128
responses and today our organization is even larger.

As soon as all 130 surveys are in we will begin the process of data
analysis and preparation of our manuscript for a timely publication.

The survey is available on the world wide web. Please look it up at

In order to fully access the survey you will need to contact our
third-party contact, Jose. He can be reached at the following email
address:

jgutierr@hermes.scripps.edu

Jose will give your lab it's unique identifier code. Armed with this you
can access the survey. We encourage you to print a copy of the survey off
of the net, either by printing from your screen or by obtaining a PDF
file--see our web page (above) for directions. Then gather the data that
you wish to submit for the survey, entering it on your hard copy. Return
to the Web page and submit the data using your lab's identifier code.

If you have any difficulty with accessing the Web or your password, please
re-contact Jose through his email address.

We, the Survey Committee, appreciate your participation in the Survey.
We think that it will provide information that you will find useful in
direction of your lab.
