peptide to peptide bonding

At the ABRF conference, as a side line, the speaker (Bruce Merrifield
?) mentioned two methods novel methods for joining peptides together.
I don't remember how it was done nor the exact speaker. Can anybody
give some assistance on this matter?

Pardon me if the speaker wasn't Dr. Merrifield.
