I have >5 years positive experience of the SMART system from
Amersham-Pharmacia Biotech. It has mostly been used to fractionate
proteolytic digests in the 1-50 =B5g range. One of the main advantages is=
the
peak sensitive automatic fraction collection. Set correctly, peaks are
collected better than manually. To my knowledge, there is no other system
capable of this time saving feature. Another useful device is the detecto=
r
which monitors at three wavelengths simultaneously. Unfortunately, the
company doesn't supply columns more narrow than 2.1 mm, but columns from
other suppliers can be used with adaptors.
