Our lab is in the process of purchasing equipment for 2-D gel analysis. We
like the Melanie software by BioRad but $14 000 seems excessive for their
Mdl GS-700 Imaging Densitometer (i.e. scanner). The sales rep told me it
is an Agfa Arcus II which sells for around $2000, but with the following
modifications for BioRad's package: sealed edges for wet gels, a gasket to
keep the lid from crushing the gel, and linear transmission up to 3 OD.
What other brands, types of scanners have you all used that works well with
wet gels for 2-D gel analysis?
