We have two mass spec instruments available in our facility, a MALDI and an
electrospray. The MALDI is a self service instrument and after basic
training users can come and use it when they want. The electrospray is a
more technically demanding instrument to operate and only those with a
large number of samples are trained to operate this system. Neither
instrument is in a common room, both are housed within the facility where
we are available to offer assistance whenever problems arise. (Out of
hours access to the facility is restricted for security reasons but if a
user needs access to the equipment they can be supplied with swipe card
entry with all access to the facility logged.)
