Terry,

(A) list all annual costs associated with HPLC

(B) list number of samples run annually.

(C) divide (A) by (B).

example: cost recovery for non-profit
1 one F.T.E. X ($salary + benefits) X fractional time in activity
2. maintenance (repairs or contract)
3. reagents, solvents, columns, lamps & other consumables
4. depreciation (if academic, probably only if you actually bought this
equipment from your accounts)
5. overhead (if applicable)
add 1-5 and multiply by the fraction you are expected to recover or 1.0.
go to step (B) above.

For comparison, you may want to consult some of the published surveys of
the ABRF survey committee. You may be able to find these by searching the
ABRF web. We charge $25/run and double this for outsiders.
good luck.
