Assistant Director
W. M. Keck Center for Comparative and Functional Genomics

Starting Date September 1, 1998
Qualifications Ph.D. in molecular biology or related field with at least
two years of postdoctoral experience. Applicants should have demonstrated
expertise in a wide array of molecular biological techniques including
cloning, sequencing, PCR, hybridization, plasmid constructions, and library
construction/screening. Additional experience in genome projects and DNA
microarray techniques is highly desirable. Strong computer skills, as well
as organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities The Keck Center will be focusing on two areas,
genome sequencing of animal, plant and microbial genomes, including
comparative genomics, and functional genomics for studying gene expression.
To serve these two purposes, the candidate should have experience with
constructing physical maps, PFGE, BAC cloning, cosmid libraries,
subcloning, restriction maps, shotgun sequencing and related applications.
The candidate is also expected to direct gene expression projects, using
microarray technology. The candidate will work closely with our high
throughput sequencing group and our bioinformatics group on special
projects. As Assistant Director of the Keck Center the candidate is
expected to collaborate closely with faculty, write research grants and
publish in reviewed journals.
Type of Position
and Salary Full time, 12 month regular academic professional position.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
