Stripping Auto.DNA sequencing plates

Does anyone have a reliable way to strip contaminants from glass plates
used for automated DNA sequencing - specifically for ABI 373s and 377s? We
have been cleaning the plates daily with a hot water rinse followed by a
wash cycle without detergent in a dishwasher per ABI instruction. We are
still getting some sort of buildup that causes very short reads (250-300
bases) and sometimes causes sequence to stop around 150 bases, start again
and then stop again. ABI tech service has recommended we try the 2M NaOH
strip method but I have heard that it may not be the best way to clean the
plates. I am also not completely convinced that the problem is entirely
caused by dirty plates. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to
hear them. Thanks!
