If you like the history of our technology consider a visit to the
Beckman Heritage Center. This museum is dedicated to the life and work
of Dr. Arnold Beckman, and includes examples of many devices that have
been inportant in the field. Examples: Model E Ultracentrifuge, early
protein sequencer, world's first pH meter and spectrophotometer. There
is even a replica of the GC that was sent to check for life on Mars a
few years ago. The museum is located in Fullerton, CA (USA)adjacent to
the Beckman campus (only a few miles from Disneyland -- makes a great
side-trip). No charge for admission, but call ahead, as hours vary.
(By the way, Dr. Beckman is alive and well. He celebrated his 98th
birthday in January!)
