I have had a Bio-Rad Biologic workstation that will run FPLC columns (low
pressure and high pressure too, up to 1000 psi) for 3 years that is used
almost everyday in our Protein Core Facility. It is a workhorse and
requires very little maintenance. It comes with a conductivity meter which
is very useful and the programming is a snap to learn and use. I have also
used Pharmacia's FPLC system (the earliest version, without the computer
controller) and found it much more difficult to program. Three years ago,
it cost ~$23000, and it has been well worth the money for us.
