Hallo,
I agree with the idea to award outstanding service technicians, but after
some years of experience (++++++ in many cases to --------------- in only a
very few (1) case) I believe that too many service technicians in different
fields are outstanding and are saving our daily life and our nerves.
Therefore this award has to divided or given in certain fields of
instruments and countries. This should be very hard. Another point is the
number of instruments in the different countries, as far as I know much
more MALDIs or ESI-MSs (as examples) are present in USA than in e.g.
germany, but we are very happy with our technicians who saved our
instruments several times by telephone calls, even from the bed. If the
ABRF members would elect outstanding technicians, these outstanding men
would get less votes and this is not correct.
Nevertheless such an award is a great idea, but the letter to the service
supervisor should also be written (or a phonecall).
