Vendors on the ABRF Board?
My feelings are if they contribute to the discussion with fair assessments
of the products, its application and what it's NOT good for, that information
can be useful to the group and is welcome (at least by me). But this isn't a
license to advertise on our board. It is to address a very specific question
posted on the board.
As for the comment of "... Adrian's comment "how
sensitive the ABRF list is to 'filthy commercial instrument vendors'
posting anything on the bulletin board," I guess it true, especially if the
posting is from a filthy vendor, but may be welcomed from a clean vendor. :-]
What's the difference between a clean and filthy vendor? One contributes to the
discussion on real solutions and wants to sell the product and the other only
wants to sell the products even at the expense of using it for the wrong
application.
There will be mistakes made on who is clean and filthy, but usually one
gets a reputation with time and mistakes are made.

ABRF'ers:

I strongly agree with Clayton Naeve's comments about vendor participation
in this group (see below if you missed it under the original posting). There
are a lot of vendors out there who know an awful lot of useful "stuff" and we
do not hear much from them. No one should feel excluded from this discussion
who has something useful to add. Most of us even appreciate reading the
appropriate part numbers that are needed to overcome a research problem. Not
everyone can go to national/international meetings and look at all of the neat
equipment and supplies at the vendors' booths.

Rich,

I realize the response from Adrian Land was intended for you and not the
entire ABRF membership, but I was disturbed by Adrian's comment "how
sensitive the ABRF list is to 'filthy commercial instrument vendors'
posting anything on the bulletin board,". I found the information he
provided particularly helpful; this is exactly the type of discourse
from which we can all benefit. I'm discouraged that he feels he is
unwelcome and wonder if other vendors have the same perception. It
should again be clarified that input from all vendors on technical
issues is valuable to our membership and should be encouraged and
welcomed. Hawking one's wares on this forum is the only activity that
we should discourage.
