Here is one simple wayto do a protein search:
1. Access database (I usually use Swiss-Prot) via MOTIF server (Kyoto
University GenomeNet) at the following WWW site:
http://www.genome.ad.jp/
2. Select "SEARCH SEQUENCE DATABASE" : this will bring you to another
screen.
3. Type in your sequence following the formating instructions
displayed. Select a database (Swiss-Prot is a good first look)
4. Select "Start Search"
The Swiss-Prot database will then be searched and results of hits
displayed in an interactive way that will link you to more information
on particular proteins (you will be able to directly link to the
Swiss-Prot entries).
Don't be suprised if you get numerous hits on five amino acids.
Good luck!
