We bought our nanospray for LCQ from Protana--although expensive, its very
nice, easy to use, and gives good data. We buy tips from them as well.
For significantly less money, you can buy a microionspray from Univ
Washington (contact Karen Jonscher <jonscherk@nero.njc.org> for more
information). Microionspray does not require a special tip. We are about
to adapt the protana interface for microionspray, but haven't gotten all
the parts to try it yet.

We got someone from Finnegan to help us set up the Protana interface, but
it seemed pretty straightforward, except for the cameras--they come in the
wrong configuration, which took us a couple of hours to figure out when we
first got a nanospray interface for our Sciex, and focusing the lens is
kind of hard.

The tip goes at an angle just up to the beginning of the heated capillary,
so there is a little separation. We set spray voltage at 700V and let the
computer optimize the rest of the parameters.
