There is a Usenet newsgroup for mass spectrometry,
sci.techniques.mass-spec. It is open for discussion of all areas of mass
spec, and a lot of the questions on this list are appropriate for the
newsgroup. I've forwarded several to the newsgroup for posting, in fact.
If you would like to participate in the newsgroup, there are two ways to do
that.
First, you can subscribe directly to the newsgroup. Tell your news reader
to look for sci.techniques.mass-spec. When the reader finds the group, it
may ask if you want to subscribe or it may expect you to use menu commands
to subscribe. Once you're subscribed, any new articles will be offered to
you each time you start your news reader.
If you can't find the group, check with your news administrator. Most
sites carry all of the sci.* groups, but some don't. If yours doesn't
carry stms, you may be able to persuade your news admin to start carrying it.
If you can't access newsgroups, or you don't want to subscribe as above,
you can participate by subscribing to a remailer. The remailer is similar
to a listserver, but submitting and receiving articles is done differently.
About twice a week, a compilation of articles is mailed to list members,
instead of articles being mailed to subscribers immediately, as the ABRF
listserver does. Articles are submitted by mailing them to
<mass.spec@gatech.edu>.
To subscribe to the remailer, send a message to
<maiser@novell.chem.utk.edu>. Leave the subject blank, and enter SUB
STMSLIST as the body. If you append a signature file to your e-mails,
suppress it for this message. You should get a confirmation message soon
after your subscription request. As a reminder, articles for submission
should be mailed to <mass.spec@gatech.edu>.
If you have any questions about the newsgroup or remailer, please let me
know. Thank you.
