At the Botany-Microbiology department of the University of Oklahoma, we
are currently seeking a Lab Manager and Technician for an automated
sequencing lab. The position is part-time initially, and will be
converted to fulltime in January contingent upon funding. Our lab deals
with a wide variety of samples and protocols related to studies of
plant and animal evolution, conservation biology, and microbiology. The
individual hired will be asked to run sequencing and AFLP gels as well
as PCRs and extractions. Cloning will be done on occasion. The
individual will also supervise the lab, including ordering supplies and
handling a low volume of billing for sequencer use, and interact with
faculty using the sequencer. The position is best suited for an
experienced person who likes to work independently. Salary: $15,000
parttime ($27,000 fulltime).
Qualifications:
>2 yrs lab experience
>experience with an ABI 377 automated sequencer
>experience in sequencing and restriction techniques, general skill in lab techniques and methods development
>facility with ABI's software, Sequencher, PAUP, Access, and Windows 95 and NT
>good oral and written communication skills
>enjoys interacting with faculty and students
Preferred:
>BS or MS in biology or biochemistry or equivalent experience
