Ok, I got several responses from the bulletin board, as usual, thank you.
But a call from technical support at Thermo Quest (Eric Streckfuss) helped
us figure out that somehow the Beckman Gold system 126 pump was now giving
an inject hold signal to the 506--we have never encountered this before,
but as soon as we disconnected the one wire from the Beckman injector
cable that connected to the "inject hold" the 506 was operational again.

Eric mentioned that sometimes the polarity of a line can change and that
this might be the reason that inject hold was activated.

We've looked on the Gold system computer settings for the control of the
pump--both in the configuration of the Gold system and in our methods and
sample tables to see if we activated an inject hold somehow.

But in the meantime, we have got the 506 operating.
