MALDI and detergents

I checked the ABRF electronic board archives but I was unable to find information, although I would have thought that the topic must have been discussed at some point: Have people identified detergents which can be used effectively to do "standard" protein chemistry manipulations (e.g. solubilize proteins) but which are not detrimental to MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry with the typical UV lasers at 337 nm? If so, what are these detergents, at what levels they are more-or-less benign, what cleanup steps are commonly carried out prior to mass spectrometry, what types, if any, of columns or resins are used, etc. I guess I am looking for some product or methodology sufficiently different from the obvious, which would be, for example, use of as small an amount of, say, SDS and removal of as much of it as one can. I am particularly interested in detergents that can be removed (or would not intefere) in the presence of peptide and protein mixtures (so gel filtration or dialysis could!

not be used). Anyone with experience in this area that is applicable to routine use? Thanks.
