Dear Per-Ingvar,
What about the simple explanation that the amino acid in that position is a
glycine and not and asparagine? How do you know the sequence? Is it
possible that this is an isoform of the protein? Is it possible that a
mistake was made in the DNA sequencing? Is it possible that somewhere
along the line this protein was passed through a non-correcting bug, and
mutations occurred? (Ask me about this one over a beer sometime, it ruined
one of my postdoctoral experiences.)
I am not saying that there is no modification to an asparagine that
will make it elute like a glycine, just that I don't know of one, and the
other explanation seems simpler.

Good luck!

Weather Inconsequential: It's hard to get ready for Christmas when its 50
degrees outside. I left California to get away from this sort of
indeterminate weather! Anyway, I will enjoy it while it's here, and just
sing, "I'm dreaming of a white christmas....."
