We have been using an Epson 800 with one of our DNA sequencers. It is a
good printer but it requires some third party software to function as a
postscript printer and the communication is terrible. We set to print
automatically on the analysis software and very often it fails to do so.
It seldom prints a whole gel without some problem usually requiring a
restart. I see Epson are offering a postscript software(mac RIP) now. Has
anyone tried it?
We recently had some trouble with our old HP1200 and HP serviced it. It
came back in good condition and prints problem free and as fast as the
newer Epson. I think if you can overhaul your HP1600 it is worth it.
