*Probably fairly inconsequential, but I would worry about junk (silicon
oils?) on the blade (possibly for the purpose of ensuring a smoother
shave) getting into the digest. True confession: I use the small blade of
a Swiss (Mettler) pocket knife to cut all bands for in-gel digestion into
tiny cubes (no crushing). Much easier to handle than a razor blade, and it
has a nice edge. Wipe off well with acetone on a Kimwipe before each use.
Same knife otherwise travels in my pocket.. Never any keratin problems.

Also, especially if you're over 40, the illuminated magnifying lens really
helps. If you're not using one now, you won't believe the difference it
makes.
