Dear Chris,
I have an idea to remove the cysteine. You can buy thio
propyl functionalised resins from Sigma and in the right buffer system this
may allow you to "sponge" up your unwanted cysteine as a disulfide.Depends
on the scale whether this is feasible. Perhaps then making the Boc or Z
derivative of the aspartyl compound would give you a sufficient difference
in solubilities to phase extract your product.
