There are two possibilities for replacing the caulk it in solution with
fittings. You may either install in the trap bottle cap bulkhead unions,
one end of which is Swagelok 3/8" tube, or drill a 7/16" hole and thread in
a
1/4" NPT thread by Swagelok 3/8" tube fitting. The two 3/8" (sometimes
nominally 3/8") tubes are secured by the Swagelok fitting. We use Teflon
fittings so the joint can't stand much physical strain but it certainly was
sealed from the fumes leaking perspective. Anyone wanting more details
regarding this please contact me directly. Also, make sure whatever your
connecting the vent line to is actually providing venting and not
backpressure. Some mild negative pressure is ideal but excessive "vacuum"
on the vent line can be deleterious to your flow reproducibility. We
connect our vent lines to the hood exhaust duct work but use a T and leave
one leg open to attenuate the pressure. Mark.
