Dear Gail: I used to have a 9050, this is still a great instrument. I have
a Pioneer now, but it has more headaches that is not user friendly. The
9050 was easy to take apart and fix, the problems will be getting the
boards repaired should that need arise. The 9050 just required a
trimonthly cleaning and verification of its calibration on the amino acid
module. The HPLC pumps were easy to amintain, but the detector was quite
time consuming to take apart and fix. In the years that I had the
instrument, it neverexhibited problems with coupling using either -OPFP
esters or activation using base and BOP/HoBt. For several peptides, my
yields and cleanliness were better on the 9050 than on the Pioneer.
However, Pioneer does a good job with HATU, which is very expensive. The
MPS as an add on was attarctive, but I still have to get it to work well.
If you need more information on the 9050 let me know, Gautam
