There are two kinds of instruments for quantitative
PCR, one from PE Biosystems (ABI Prizm 5700 or 7700)
and the other from Roche (Light Cycler). Light Cycler
is designed to do rapid PCR but can only handle 24
samples/run (not sure of this number). ABI machine
can handle 96 samples/run. The cost of Light Cycler
is about the same as ABI Prizm 5700. I want to point
out the 5700 cannot do multiplex detection. ABI Prizm
7700 costs significantly more.
You have to specify the application before further
recommendation can be made.
