I agree with the others that the HP1100 is very reliable. Also, the
baseline is the smoothest I've ever seen, which probably is mainly due to
the solvent vacuum system. This really helps see small, but real signals.
If you're buying, there are really two HP1100s. The quarternary pump
system is a low pressure mixing system with a design similar to HP1090, and
is good for more preparative applications. We use the binary pump HP1100
at fairly low flow rates (and with an LC Packings 145 nl flow cell in the
VWD) for micropreparative work, and with splitters as needed for LCMS.
