Mary-
It will certainly work on a Quadra. I set up an old Mac IIci with
Daystar Turbo 601 accelerator (making it less stable than a regular IIci)
with Timbuktu 4.0. Kathy Schegg uses this computer to control the PowerMac
on our Procise from across the California-Nevada state line (she lives in
nearby Truckee) with no major problems. I have never heard her complain of
a crash. I suspect your MAIN problem is System 7.6, which was a DOG! It
was almost immediately replaced with 7.6.1, which is a lesser dog.
So we are running without problems with an older computer (the IIci
can be run successfully as either a 68030 or a 601 PowerMac with this
accelerator) and an earlier version of Timbuktu. However, the IIci is
running system 7.5.3, and the Powermac on the sequencer is running system
7.5.5. At the recommendation of Mike Sherlund, our former ABD service rep
and the best service rep I have ever encountered from ANY company, we have
refrained from any system software upgrade on the PowerMac.
It is my understanding that Apple gives away system 7.5. Any
version from 7.5.1 to 7.5.3 should be suitable, but I will bet any amount
of money that this is your problem. Also, when did you last rebuild your
desktop or Zap your PRAM?? Best way of doing both is to go to
http://www.micromat.com/micromat/main.html and download the freeware
program TechTool v. 1.1.8.
