That is normal! The development is normally stopped as soon as the protein
spots are clearly visible. If you have good amounts that means only the top
layer of the gel will be stained, leaving protein in the middle without
stain. A general rule: the bigger the unstained middle, the more protein,
the higher the chance of identifying the protein.
