DNA sequencing labs,
We have decided to upgrade the Macintosh computer on our ABI Model
377 DNA sequencer from its old and slow PowerMac 7100/66 to a new 450
MHz model G3. The serial ports on the G3 are the newer USB ports that
are quite different from the serial port we use for the machine
interface with the PowerMac. ABI has advised us to purchase a Keyspan
SX-2 or SX-4 serial card to provide the necessary interface to the
sequencer.
I would like to have advice from labs that have performed a similar
upgrade. Does this change of computer go smoothly or are there
unexpected problems that we should anticipate before buying the new Mac?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
-Mark
